Love The Beach

Scarborough

The North and South beaches are large and clean and popular with families, and other attractions include the castle, North Bay Miniature Railway, the Sea Life Centre, and the Lifeboat Station.

Fraisthorpe

Hornsea

30 mins by car, 55 mins by bus (stops outside South Shore Holiday Village) – Hornsea’s pretty beach holds the prestigious Blue Flag Award. One of the town’s main attractions is the Mere which is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, perfect for fishing, sailing, and birdwatching.

Family Day Out

Flamborough Head & Lighthouse

The breathtaking rocky coastline and steep cliffs have led to many tales of shipwrecks, smuggling, and piracy at Flamborough over the years. These days the lighthouse is the main attraction and daily guided tours are recommended.

Whitby

Probably best known as the location for Bram Stoker’s Dracula novel, Whitby is steeped in history with the 13th century Abbey overlooking the harbour. The old town, with its cobbled streets is a popular attraction, as are the fish and chip restaurants (including the world-famous Magpie Cafe).

Beverley

30 mins by train – Beverley is a historic market town with a great selection of high street shops, smaller independent retailers, cafes and restaurants. The famous racecourse overlooks the golf course and the Westwood Pasture which is popular with families, dog walkers, and horse riders.

Nature Walks

Pickering & ‘Heartbeat’ Country

A stone’s thrown inland from Bridlington and the Yorkshire coast lies the fantastic scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway which connects Pickering to the villages of Grosmont and Goathland – famously used as the setting for the ITV drama series ‘Heartbeat’.

Dalby Forest & North York Moors National Park

Also within easy reaching distance of Bridlington and the coast is Dalby Forest with a great visitors centre and miles of cycle paths and walking routes.
